Figures across the aviation industry renewed calls for increased collaboration in Turkey last week as stakeholders came together at Aviation Connect 2024.

Leaders emphasised that collaboration is vital now more than ever as operators look to streamline their operations by enhancing safety and efficiency.

Henrik Ambak, chair of the Air Cargo Handling & Logistics conference, told delegates in the opening plenary that the industry’s future is “going to be about collaboration”.

ULD Care vice president Bob Rogers added that stakeholders need to “break down silos” for a better industry.

But the industry’s work is not complete yet, one speaker told delegates.

According to IATA’s head of cargo Brendan Sullivan: “There are areas of our industry where collaboration is going really well…

“But there are some areas that we’re not so good at.”

For air cargo, he said, end to end visibility is poor – and regulations are also posing their own challenges for stakeholders.

But there were other conversations at play in Istanbul last week. Sustainability and standardisation are two key topics that dominated Aviation Connect.

Robert Powell, dnata’s vice president of technical services and chair of the GSE & Ramp-Ops conference, said: “People have said for the last few years there is a lack of innovation in GSE. Now, we have autonomy and sustainability.”

And ASA World – formerly ASA – director general Fabio Gamba renewed the association’s commitment to improving standardisation across the industry. He declared that standardisation is vital for industry collaboration.

Aviation Connect encompasses the ASA Leadership Forum, Air Cargo Handling & Logistics, ULD Care, Airfreight Pharma and Road Feeder Services conferences. The event took place from 29-31 October 2024.
